So how does Pet Positive Training’s separation anxiety program work?
Start with a separation anxiety behavior assessment.
To start, anyone can get a free separation behavior assessment with me. Even if you know your dog has separation anxiety or have just wondered if they do, this is the place to start.
In the assessment I get a little background information and observe your dog’s behavior while they are alone. Based on this assessment I get a “threshold” of time to work under during actual practice.
5 Months of Hybrid Learning: One-on-one Dog Training and Online Course.
After the initial assessment you start the actual program. There are 5 Modules in the program which each take 1 month to complete. Each module includes trainer-led and trainer-written separation anxiety practice as well as online course learning materials and assignments. The first 3 modules are all the same price but as you learn to train more independently, the monthly price goes down! The purpose of my program is to make this training accessible to more people by making the price more predictable. With my program you can save over $5000 for 1 year of effective separation anxiety training.
First 3 Months of Foundations Learning with a Dog Separation Anxiety Expert.
Modules 1, 2, and 3 are the “Foundations” modules where I write practice for you to complete while you learn about the separation anxiety protocol from my online course materials.
That means that each week in the foundations modules I am writing up to 4 practice sessions, also known as missions, which you complete and submit behavior notes for. You are watching and listening to online course materials and each week you will submit one or two assignments for me to review and provide feedback about. And we meet for a 1-hour re-assessment at the end of each week.
As you learn about the training and get used to the practice, your assignments become more and more realistic – you begin to write missions yourself that I review and either adjust or give the green light for you to complete. At the end of the first 3 months of foundations packages you are ready to begin writing your own missions which means the next month doesn’t cost as much. Since you are writing your missions you don’t need me for as many hours each week.
Price Goes Down, Confidence in Your Separation Anxiety Training Abilities Goes Up.
Module 4 is called “Advanced Concepts.” You are writing your own missions but I am still writing and leading the re-assessments. Each week of this module you have online course materials and assignments that get you ready to assess your dog’s progress and understand how use the behavior information we collect in the reassessment session.
Finally, Module 5 is the least expensive month yet – you are able to pull the important information from the assessment to know how to write your missions each week. This module serves as a transition point where I am still here to review and help with your assessments and weekly parameters – but you are leading the training with me as back-up. After this module you have completed the online course and are ready to graduate from the program!
Independent Separation Anxiety Training with Ongoing Trainer Support
But that doesn’t mean I disappear – I recommend continue to meet with me every 4-6 weeks or as needed with either a check-in or a trainer-led assessment to review any questions you have or to troubleshoot any plateaus or regressions in your dog’s alone time behavior. You also have the tools to make informed decisions about the level of support you want. Is there a month where you really don’t want to write your own training? You can purchase a 1-month package from me to write that training and lead the assessments again - but you aren’t locked in to needing this level of support for longer than you want it.
In summary – over the course of 5 months of modules you are able to train more independently from me, and as you take on more aspects of the separation anxiety protocol your monthly price goes down. I created this program to make separation training more accessible and affordable for everyone. I want anyone who has a dog suffering from separation anxiety to be able to get the help they need instead of being trapped in a cycle of isolation, frustration, and hopelessness. There is hope and I have a path to effectively help you and your dog get the stress relief and freedom you need.
